CLARIFYING HAIR
a Scientific Approach to reducing environmental effects on scalp and hair

Consider hair as "FIBER ART"—like weaving or quilting. Fiber artists purchase the finest fiber they can afford and yet, they still prepare the fiber before creating art. Likewise, hair and makeup artists prepare skin and hair before creating their art!

Predictable results depend upon a) the structural competency of the fiber, and b) how well the fiber was prepared for the service. Haircutting and styling are as dependent upon properly prepared hair fiber as chemical services. (Please do not use a deep conditioner 72 hours prior to or after chemical services.)

Adverse environmental conditions can lead to some of the following quirks, which can lead to unpredictable chemical and styling results.

  • Dull, dry, brittle, tangled, and snarled
  • Flyaway ends
  • Frizzy texture
  • Scaly, flaking scalp
  • Flat scalp hair resistant to product and teasing
  • Dark, flat color tone

If your hair exhibits any of the above symptoms, practice the following procedure regularly to break residual pollution off the scalp and hair. In a few weeks, you'll experience bouncy, shiny, youthful hair.

SHAMPOO, CONDITION, SHAMPOO AGAIN!

1. SHAMPOO
Wet hair in shower or sink. Apply regular shampoo and lather quickly. Do not rinse. Apply a mixture of @ ˝-teaspoon baking soda and clarifying shampoo to the scalp area. Lather mixture for a few moments. Rinse. At this stage, scalp can feel tingly and hair fiber can feel rough and tangled. NOTE: Sensitivity to baking soda is very rare, but if scalp reddens or burns, rinse immediately and apply a gentle conditioner.

2. CONDITION
Apply a generous amount, more than 1-Tablespoon of conditioner to SCALP area & through rest of hair. Comb through with a large tooth comb for ˝ - 1 minute. (Combing breaks ionic bonds adhering topical pollutants.) Thick lather signals success! Rinse. Hair may feel sticky or gummy. Relax, its only residue.

3. SHAMPOO AGAIN
Apply a minimal amount of shampoo (without Baking Soda) to scalp and hair. This final shampoo may produce massive amounts of sticky lather as pollutants break free. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Hair may feel tangled, dry, raw. Gently towel blot hair and proceed to step #4 or #5.

4. DEEP CONDITIONER (at least once a month; never 72 hrs before or after chemical services)
Follow the manufacturer's directions for applying and timing. Follow with a quick, regular shampoo if needed to restore body.

5. LEAVE-IN TREATMENT
Follow the manufacturer's directions for amount to use and application. Generally use 2 to 4 inches from scalp to ends.

6. STYLE AND ENJOY!
